Apocalypse Father’s Day Card

With Father’s day right around the corner, I decided to make my dad a card this year. Considering the amount of “zombie” stories in the news, I feel it’s only necessary I provide the old man with a Zombie Apocalypse survival kit! (Really just a gift card to Harbor Freight).

For the outside of this card, I wanted to imitate one of those MRE type sardine cans. I laminated a piece of chipboard with some silver decal vinyl. Then, I cut the dad in gasmask / tie logo out of black wall vinyl, since it has a nice matte finish. This happens to match the green WorldWin cardstock, nicely. Next, I laminated some white WorldWin cardstock with the same silver vinyl I used on the chipboard.  This gave the outside a neat metallic appearance.

On the inside, I used a regular pen in my KNK Zing to write a little note. I’ll attach the giftcard below this 🙂

I designed my card in KNK Studio. I created the gas mask, collar and can opener using Node editing. The font for “DAD” is called Ideal_ie (comes with KNK Studio). I then copied and pasted my artwork over to Make The Cut and cut all my pieces out on the KNK Zing.

  1. Love that pop tab on the front of the card…and that you included a tie with the gas mask! LOL
Great job Chad, I’m sure your dad will love it! 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing that Fathers Day card with us…it settled the question of what card to make my SIL for his bday on the 29th! He’s retired army, and into survivalist thinking (NOT the really weird compound … pull everyone into it then feed them all that funny “koolaide” before offing them type survivallist) but anyway, their whole family is also into zombie movies and books, and he firmly believes some kind of an apocalypse will come eventually and he just wants to be prepared. He’s starting by having 3 baby bunnies, 3 ducks, several chickens and one huge garden, and we gave him a food saver (shrink wrap?) machine for his bday. So this card was perfect. I didn’t quite figure out how to do it the “right” way, even though I did cut it out with the zing..rather successfully. One part I did not know what to do with..the one that looked like a card front with a collar above it? Sooo, I made it my way, and on the inside I put: This may be the last birthday before the zombie apocalypse, so we’ve fixed you a survival kit..enjoy this MRE. He LOVED it! And we did give the shrink wrap machine whatever it is to him which he loves, and has finally figured out how to work it. It was just so perfect for him! Thanks again.
