So let me preface this post by admitting I don’t cook. It’s not that I can’t, I don’t like to do it. And I married someone who cooks, so I’ve been able to get out of it all these years. So my friends and mom have been raving about this pressure cooker telling me it will change my life as I know it.
I didn’t believe them.
So I got one for Christmas. And I started using it. And magical things happened. Magical food things happened. So something I’d never thought I would admit in a million years has happened. I kind of like this cooking thing. It’s not too bad.
In honor of my new skillllzzzzzz, I felt the Instapot needed to be spruced up a bit. Plus I saw some decorations online so I fired up the Maxx and got to work…
Yep, that’s Ryan Gosling. And there are so many memes about him flying around the internet and I saw someone selling similar ones on Etsy so I knew I could make my own.
So this was the photo I found on the internet:
And I brought it into Photoshop and fooled around with the levels and threshold and got this:
There were still a lot of rough edges that I knew wouldn’t cut very well so I want to play around with this a little more because I want to be able to do this on my own with other images. For this project, I ended up tracing one already done (so unfortunately, I can’t share the file). But I got to thinking, it might be fun to try to draw the above image with the pen tool and see what I get. Or if I run a cross-hatch filter on it, it would be neat to engrave. There are tons of possibilities.
So excuse the horrible iPhone pictures, but here are some of the dishes I’ve made in the past couple weeks. The family has given me thumbs up on most of the meals and they are a pretty picky bunch:
meatloaf
mongolian beef
lasagna (this one was weird! You put everything in the pan raw, noodles and cheese and meat and then it just cooks it all!)
sesame chicken
garlic pasta with zucchini and peas
Sorry. Didn’t mean to turn TeamKNK into TeamInstapot…. but I’ll tell you what, I love that thing! Almost as much as my Maxx 😉 (see what I did there?) I may be late to this bandwagon, but I jumped onto it.
Materials
KNK Maxx
Make the Cut software
black vinyl
instapot (heh heh heh)
red blade
Directions
- Find cool images or draw your own
- Throw food into instapot and start it.
- Cut out vinyl and stick to side of instapot (though I kinda recommend you not doing this while it’s on because that little sucker gets HOT)
- Follow Ryan’s advice and kick back and relax.

Well your post is VERY much needed here! Using my instant pot allows more crafting time!!!! I have one and love it and have seen the decals but haven’t decided which to use! By the way my favorites are the Mac and cheese and cheesecakes 😁🐽🐷😏not exactly the healthy ones! But seriously I love the yogurt it makes! I was never huge on yogurt now I have to limit myself!
The yogurt process looks hard for dummies like me. Is it?
Awesome post, Deb! Love what you did to yours! I also got one for Christmas, so far I have only used it once for ribs, it was awesome!
Thanks! I’m collecting recipes so if the ribs one was easy, will you send it my way please?
I, too, love my IP! But like Carol, I haven’t decided how to bling it up. I’m leaning toward McSteamy. I just need to get at it. I LOVE the yogurt. Deb, it sounds more complicated to make than what it really is. I use This Old Gal’s recipe and I’ve had excellent results every time.
I saw the mcsteamy one and almost did it
I am just chuckling…my brother has one and loves it.
Now I’m jealous. Does this instapot come with recipes or are you on your own? I could use one of these. Loved how you decorated yours, Deb. And LOVED the meal pics. Now I’m hungry.
It comes with a recipe book. But to be honest, all these recipes were on Pinterest and the instapot FB page. There are free books on kindle with recipes too.
