Cowboy Caviar Recipe Layout

This recipe layout was designed in KNK Studio and then cut out on my 15″ Klic-N-Kut Maxx. I have regularly participated in my local scrapbooking group’s recipe swaps for a number of years and truly enjoy designing 8″ x 8″ layouts as much as any other paper craft I’ve ever tried. I’d love to say it’s because I enjoy cooking, but I think my biggest attraction to recipe swaps is the open creativity that goes along with it.

With scrapbooking or card making, I usually feel confined to make sure my creations are aligned with the photos being used or the intended recipient of the card. But with a recipe layout, I feel no boundaries and I love to just imagine something completely different, something I’ve never tried before!

In this case, I fit the title (Font: Abilene Regular) to a curved “branding iron” path and welded. I then cut the top layer from mirrored cardstock and added a black 3D shadow background.

Then for the boot, I designed a path of tiny circles to be cut and then hand-stitched with embroidery floss. In the free file I’m sharing below, I provided a second boot with dashed line cutting as well, in case anyone doesn’t want to add the embroidery:

Finally, if you want the recipe for one fabulously tasty salsa, try this Cowboy Caviar! Whenever I make a big batch, I’m lucky to still find it in the fridge the next day! And it’s even good for you, too! 😛 The recipe is in the Instruction file that accompanies the cutting file. Enjoy!
