St. Patrick’s Day Place Cards

My 15″ KNK Maxx Air and my KNK Studio software make it easy to create custom place cards for any occasion.  Since St. Patrick’s Day will be here before we know it, yes, I know it isn’t even Valentine’s Day yet,  I thought I’d get a head start on making place cards and not have to do them at the last minute as so often happens.

I was fortunate to be able to attend some of the KNK retreats held in past years and have used the printed instructions Sandy McCauley provided to us for the various sessions.  These instructions have become my go-to resource when I can’t remember the details of a particular project.  Thanks Sandy!

The place card is 2″ x 4″ when it is folded.  I began by creating a rectangle that is 2″ x 4″.  I selected the CAC Champagne font and sized and spaced it like I wanted.  I then used the Transform/Outline function to create a shadow layer that was 0.06 larger than the original letters.  I moved the shadow layer to the center of the top of the rectangle and overlapped the bottom of the shadow layer slightly onto the rectangle.

One new

I then welded the two objects together.  The next steps were to make sure that my welded object was a polyarc, to select it so the nodes were visible and then to edit it using the “Delete” trash can icon to remove the parts of the rectangle and leave just the cropped shadow layer.

I created two new rectangles – one was 4″ x 4″ and the second was 3.8″ x 3.8″.  The smaller one is used to cut the lining for the place card.  Shamrocks from the Mini Pics Lil Events dingbat font (uppercase K) were added to my screen and resized and rotated to my liking.  The shamrocks were placed in the lower half of the 4″ square and welded using the XOR welding function to leave holes in the square.

Finally, the cropped shadow layer was positioned so the bottom of the shadow layer was 2″ above the bottom of the 4″ square and centered side to side.  A very short straight line was drawn at the left and right edges to mark where to score the fold line.  If desired a pounce line could be added instead of using a manually marked fold line.

The smaller square was folded in half, place inside of the larger square and secured with the double sided adhesive tape.

The name was cut from the gold vinyl, weeded, and positioned onto the place card using clear transfer tape.

  1. Awesome Judy! For anyone who hasn’t attended a KNK retreat there will be more offered soon! But, Sandy also has some videos that are very helpful also.

  2. I really appreciate the instructions you gave. It really helps me to see how to do these myself. Thank you.
