Shhh…it’s Saturday and I snuck in

Today isn’t a day to post but I had to share this. :~)

I make cards for the “Swim Team” that swims at the same time as my kids and I .They are a group of ladies in their 70’s and 80’s and they love getting the cards. Because I have been making so many plaques and tiles it has been a while since I made them cards. Unfortunately with that age group Sympathy cards are a hot commodity. I found this card on Pinterest and I think it was made with a punch and a stamp. pinterest with sympathy

I was able to design it in KNK Studio and cut it from vinyl using my KNK Maxx. But with all of the tiny pieces it was a pain to weed and I was making at least a dozen. My KNK friend Shirley told me she applies the vinyl and then weed with intricate cuts. Hmmmm…so i cut the vinyl, put tranfer tape over the top, picked up the whole thing, applied it to the card, and then just pulled off the excess vinyl. It worked like magic and saved so much time. I used Coredinations paper for the card, it is a great cardstock for applying vinyl. Thanks Shirley!!!!

  1. Sorry if I sound greedy but I’d LOVE it if you’d share the file 🙂
    Love hugs and prayers
    Carol

    • I will Carol. I don’t know how to upload the file so I always have Sandy do it. I will send it to her tomorrow and hopefully it will be added by the beginning of the week.

      • Carol, I managed to get the file up in KNK format. Hopefully Sandy or someone will be able to add some of the other formats.

  2. Thanks for the posting on a Saturday. What a nice surprise! I have heard about weeding after transferring but never thought about it for cards. Thanks for sharing. It sounds like a great plan.

  3. lovely card and great tip for the vinyl…i will definately have to try that one…thank you

  4. Wow! I never thought of using vinyl to make cards. and the weeding tip is awesome.
    Thank you.

  5. Tamara, I’ve seen one of Nancy’s cards using vinyl. They are beautiful. I never remember to try it though. I’ve got to add that to my to do list!

  6. Sympathy cards always the most difficult for me to make too, and as I age I’m finding I need more of them all the time. I love the simplicity of this beautiful card. I will look forward to getting the file as well. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Nancy, the flower almost looks like it is cut out of the card stock. Love the card and can hardly wait for the file. Thanks for sharing.

    • Millie, on the blue card it was cut from the cardstock. I tried that option also and it worked but I just prefered the vinyl option. But you can cut the flower part from the cardstock and then just add the with sympathy from vinyl.

  8. Duh! Why haven’t I thought of weeding after applying? I’ll have to try that. Thanks for the idea as well as the cute card file!

  9. That’s a great idea and also the recommended way (by the owner of Etch All) to apply a vinyl cut to glass for etching! I never thought of doing it on a card! Thanks Nancy AND Shirley!

  10. I really like your card. I think even I could do this. May have to try it. TFS your tip about the vinyl.

  11. Thank you so much for sharing your design. I love the card and the vinyl tip is wonderful, I will have to try it. I’m just starting to do some cutting with vinyl and I love it! I get very clean and easy cutting with my Zing, I can hardly believe that I was lucky enough to invest in such a great piece of equipment, I love my Zing :-).

    • It took me a long time to work up the courage to do cut vinyl. Pretty silly because vinyl is so much easier to cut then paper and even though when you buy a roll it seems like a big investment it is cheaper to use than paper. I agree with how fortunate I feel that I have a
KNK, for me it has made a huge difference in my life. And then there are all of the awesome people I have meet because of it. :O)

  12. Great card and a great tip! I often use the “weed after” trick on small, intricate cuts.

    Thanks for sharing!

  13. I really appreciate this card as I have had need for it recently! I wanted something really personal from us. You gave me this opportunity. thank you
