Hi, I’m Carole Lassak with the Create & Craft team. I purchased this wooden block perpetual calendar as a kit on a clearance table. It came with hideous shades of paint, which were completely dried in the containers, and equally lovely papers to decorate the pieces. No problem, though. I had other ideas in mind for this little gem.
I began by lightly sanding all the pieces and painting them with Green Pearl Perfect Pigment Liquid Acrylic paint from USArtQuest. Then I napkin collaged the piece using Susan Pickering Rothamel’s technique.
I used my Zing to cut the months and numbers from black vinyl using Commercial Script font. I love cutting vinyl on my Zing!! It’s incredible the detail and fine cuts this machine does.
Each side of the long narrow blocks has a month on it, and the numbers go on the large square blocks. The numbers 0-1-2-3-4-5 go on one block, and 0-1-2-6-7-8 go on the other. The number 6 does double duty as 9, so keep this in mind when selecting a font 🙂
Since my kit came from an unknown source a quick Google search turned up directions for building your own block calendar, and an Etsy shop where you can purchase a kit.
You can see more of my project on my Create & Craft blog.
